
Shri Satish Kumar Sivan
Consul General
Shri Satish Kumar Sivan assumed charge as the Consul General of India in San Francisco on 24 August 2026. A career diplomat with more than two decades of experience, he has served in a range of assignments at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi and at Indian Missions abroad. Before coming to the United States, Shri Sivan served as the Consul General of India in Dubai from October 2023 to July 2026.
Previously, Shri Sivan served in key assignments at Indian Missions in Beijing, Washington, D.C., and Seoul. He served as Second Secretary at the Embassy of India in Beijing, First Secretary at the Embassy of India in Washington, D.C., and Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of India in Seoul.
In his latest stint at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi, Shri Sivan served as Joint Secretary handling the Rapid Response Cell and Development Partnership Administration, where his responsibilities included overseeing India’s grant-in-aid development projects in partner countries. Earlier, as Under Secretary and as Director in the East Asia Division, he handled India’s relations with China, the Koreas and Mongolia. He also served as Deputy Secretary in the Office of the External Affairs Minister.
Shri Sivan holds a Master’s degree in Commerce from the University of Madras. He speaks English, Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil and is also conversant in Mandarin.
He is married to Ms. Uma Parvathi Sivanesan, and they have a son.
