The Consulate General of India San Francisco in association with ‘WomenNow’ led by Ms. Ena Sarkar held a ‘handicrafts promotion’ event in Milpitas.

The event has attracted many women entrepreneurs working on Indian handlooms/handicrafts from various states. Most of the states were covered in display of respective handicrafts and the Indian community came to visit to have a glimpse of handicrafts under one umbrella. The event also had beautiful presentation by Ms. Sangita Biswas on the history and legacy of Indian handicrafts particularly the ‘Madhubani’ Paintings from Bihar and other art forms from other states. Also, a Stanford graduate student Ms. Priyanka Laddha made a presentation on the aspect of sustainability of Indian handlooms. The event has helped not only in promoting handicrafts but to bring together women entrepreneurs promoting in Indian handicrafts and particular artisans in west Bengal, Andra Pradesh, Telangana etc., After the event many women entrepreneurs expressed interest in continuing such events to promote handicrafts. Consul General in his address mentioned about the best way to promote through ODOP (One District One Product) and encouraged each of them to promote popular handicraft product of their district of birth.
